Tientsin area. Those gold coins that do exist are held by hoarders or
souvenir collectors, and the?efore no value or finenese can be determined.

tical at .994? but Peiping gold bars have always been .985 or less. Peiping
dealers do not stamp their bars as is ccastowary in the other cities mention-
ed. A. gold bar bought in Shanghai for US $76 to *75 can readily be sold in
Tientsin the same day for US 41.

The weights of gold bars in ciroulation in Tientsin are i tael, 1 tael,
2 taels, 5 taels, and 10 tads. A ' tael or 1 tael bar is considered a
