SUPPLEMENT
After forty days of negotiations between Soviet experts and he R34 $V0
(Yugoslav T tier Control), it was decided on 3.6 September 1946 that all
aupV1ie of Yugoslav oaks and in particular rough oak for floor-boards,
should be frozen and held at the disposal of the USSR.
The timber was to be taken over by a Soviet conmpany which would be
responsible f'or transporting it to the oounties sere it will be used.
The inspection of the timber was expected to take about two months,
since ? e quantity involved was between one and one-half and twos .1 .ioa
cubic motors.
B. Reforestation
A reforestation program was urgently needed; it would take twenty yarn
before the prewar timber supply position could be re-establishedb
There was recently held in Zagreb a meeting of foresiry experts to
study the timber supply in Yugoslavia today. It was announced that,
areas the oountrjy+s forests did not produce more than 3,,5)0,,O00
cubic meters a year, the total mount of timber cut for the country's
needs was in the region of 7,,9000.,000 cubic meters a. year.
`. A forestation program covering about 200 acres in the Pee area (Serbia)
was being put into effeot.
