4NTEU8FMX 14 CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE 'GROUP INTELLIGENCE REPORT COUKW Argentina 'WA: ? INFO. r aroh-April 19.49 SUBJECT Bulgarian C;rxnmuuists in Argentina ORLG N 1. In anticipation of possible suppression of open Connaunist activities by the Argentine authorities, the Bulgarian Corrnunist leaders have made preparations for going underground in case of necessity.. Tomas i:avidov, who has been r'recti- dent of the Central Ccr.ittee of the Bulgaria Libre, recently resigned his position, named his successor, and supervised a reorganization in anticipation of the possibility that he may have to leave. the country. Although the now President of Bulgaria Libre, L:inko Leneff? is titular head, Lavidov retains his previous influence over both Bulgaria Libre and the Slav Union. Consequently, his resignation is. considered as a precautions:ry measure resulting from his wife's fear that he may be arrested. 25X1X Approved F r elease /09/08 : CIA-RDP82-00457R000600090009-1 t.'ission, whose members have occasionally adr itted receipt of cefinitely non- commercial directives from the Comintern. Although the acknowledged purpose of the Bulgarian Commercial I..iteior, is to purchase leather and hides, it is reported to use this merely as a cover for political activities. the "secret police" organisation, o(mpos,ed of fanatically loyal Bulgarian Ucranunists who act as spies in Argentina for the reporting of dissenters in Slav-Communist groups, also underW'e3nt a recent reorgto.niration. In the event that Lavidov is forced to flea the country, the lez;.dership of this police force is to be taken by Gheorgi Kasaudjioeff, the head of the Bulgarian Commercial Mission which arrived in 1srgentina during October, 1916,. This is reported to be another confirmation of the political nature of the Commercial 3. Kasandjieff recently concluded an inspection trip into the interior. He paid particular attention to the Bulgr:rion groups in Comodoro Rivad?avia, Territory of Chabut, and in Las Brenas, Territory of Chaco,. His purpose was to establish direct contact with the scattered Bulgarian secret police. The Chaco Territory is currently considered important in the Slav movement,, as the majority of the various Slav groups there are rarldly coming under Communist domination. '12 as amand.
