SUPPLEMENT
1. The evening newspaper Critioa has undergone an abrupt change of editorial
policy since it haas been acc iuired by a group of men reported to be financially
backed by Domino A. Mereante, Governor of the Province of Buenos Aires. This
nowspeper, when under ex Deputy Lanonte Tsborda, was anti-Peron, and suffered
n,eroua persecutions after the election of the latter. As a result of several
assaults on the offices of Critica, during one of which several people were
killed, the paper was forced to suspend publication. Then a lawsuit was
brought against the proprietorship of Taborda, in which he lost both the lawsuit
and control of the paper.
2. Under the new proprietorship Critiwca has been following the line of Peron's
Govermmnt, and praising the aaror F the latter. However, this abrupt change
caused a serious drop in circulation. To bolster up circulation, special
per siss3 on was sought and obtained from Peron to continue a str p^ anti-Franco
c&s.paign. At the same time C:ri a Is waging a strong anti-Cc uuuist campaign,
although under its former owner it was used by the Ccanariunist Party for the
epread of its, propaganda.
