The 3,000 skilled German workers in Wismar belong to various
construction firms in the Russian Zone. The identities of these
firms are not known; on SMA order, they founded branch enterprises
for the express purpose of working on the Baltic harbors A great
number of forced workers are also earpioyed o These are.&rhitraril.y
selected by the Russians and detained for two to three i,reek reriods,
when they are released and replaced by new conscripts.
