L, Communist party strategy is currently concerned with the developments
inside the Social Democratic Party. The Communists are giving special
attention on during the past two months to the development of the movement
in.the Social Democratic Party to oust Fierlinger as Chair an of the Party
at the next Congress. Of even greater interest to the Communists is the
open demand of the Social Democratic Party for general elections by Spring
of 1948. Finally, the recent anti:-Communist campaign carried in the Social
Democratic Party newspag rs, especially the Pro Lido, gives further point
to the fact that independent elements within the Social Democratic Party
are becoming stronger in their demand for a clean break with the Co uniatse
2. Many Coreunni.et r leaders are beginning to compare these developments within
the Social Democratic Party with similar developments in .the French Social
Democratic Party.,
3. It is still the feeling within Communist Party rust the Social
Democrats are over-estimating
their strength and will scurry back to co-
operate with the Communists whenever the latter puts the squeese on them
by taking away certain leading positions in government and industry.
