SUPPLEMENT
1. The Budapest Havag plant employs at present 6,000 Mons but is not
operating at capacity, although its position is improving. This
factory manufactures coal- fired, broad-.gauge locomotives on the
Soviet reparation account., They have front bogies, four driving
axles and one free-running axle behind:\ The factory has a maximum
capacity of about 100 locomotives a year.
2. This plant-is also making some centrifugal pumps and a certain
limited amount of agricultural machinery. No rail cars are being
made here.
3n The Havag plant at Diasgyor has blast furnaces and is producing
pig iron. It also produces rails and steel tires for freight cars.i
It employs some 109000 workers. }
4. Havag is incorporated in the Heavy Industries Group of the State
Industries Scheme (NIK). Most of the former directors and forem.en'
have been dismissed. The company is working mostly on reparations
account and has no labor troubles.

5. Mavag is experiencing great difficulty in finding raw materials.
The firms operate on a 5O-hour week basis; one shift only with 40,:
occasional exception of certain small departments which work longui 50X1-HUM
hours.
