150 In the mortar battalion each gun crew consists of a corporal, a
driver, an assistant driver and three privates. Two LUGs are attached to
'each Mortar sectlon, the Motor equipment of Which is four trucks carrying
mortars, one aMmunition truck, one pick-up for the troop commander and one
light motorcycle* In addition, each company has a pick-up for the company
commander who is usually a captain.
;US. Th* independent signal battalion contains in its special company
an exceptionally large number of warrant officers and sergeants. This num-
bar is estimated at 24 to 28 of the former and 12 to 14 of the latter.
17. The engineer battalion contains a mine-clearing company using
detector*. Members Qr this company have been heard discussing methods of
neutralizing glass and bakelite mines which are being taught them by the
Soviet training section,
le, Je bridging company, commanded by Captain Smeljowski, is prac-
ticing bricge building on the Bober river, using material similar to that
with which the german light bridging units were equipped. At the end of
April four armored vah4O1ea were observed being driven into the river at
a Yoint'where its bed was solid. They carried a steel superstructure which
foraed the foundation for a bridge of some 18 to 22 meters in length.
19._ There are n9 reserve troops attached to this division. This is
in accordance with the pre-I939 Polish Army practise and it is designed to
render the fOrmatiens more mobile.
20. All ,formation* of this division come under division H4 at Hirsch-
berg for supplies and communications. Couriers, some of whom are officers,
have been observed travelling between Hirschberg and Breslau. Ration and
clothing impplies are located in Rudelstadt. Fuel dumps are located at each
S4 with large fuel and ammunition dumps in the chalk pits around Kauffung.
