Julius BOGI.AR is another influential Communist member of the Educational Assooi-
ation, He is primarily concerned with furthering the interests of the Communist
party among university students in Vienna. (He himself is a university student

Ufficials of the Educational Association have succeeded in winning over Ladislas
AkaDVARYt an instructor at the Co21e;iua Hunmaricum. Fearing that he would. 'be
recalled to Hungary, ABADVARY sought to utilize the influence of members of the
Educational Association to prevent this move. At present he is very active in
the Oollegium on behalf of the Communists. Although he claims to have no polit-
ical interests and denies being a member of the Communist Party, ARADVARY has
dees~ribed as hie goal the establishment of cooperation between the Communists
and the Hungarian Workers*Association.
In October 19l6,the.Rungartan Language Group of the Austrian Communist Party
became an affiliated member of the newly established Central. Union of Demoo'atio
Hungarian Associations in Vienna (see below)., Because the kustrian Ministr- of
Interior does not permit political and non=political groups to be united within
the same organization, the Language Group chsnzed its name to "Educational
Association of Freedom-Loving Hungarians in Vienna" Communist members of the
Language Group did not object to this arrangement, as they 1-.ad been unsuccessful
in attempts to organize the Hungarians in Vienna along political lines.

The Association also plans to send packages from Hungary to members of the Hungar-
ian colony in Vienna who suffered under the. Nazi rule. The packages are to be
forwarded by the Hungarian Partisan League, a Communist-dominated organizatr,+n.
The Communists have attempted to establish a hold on the young people by super-
vising sports and athletics. .
S, The Educational Association at one time attempte i to organi,' the Ev ;ar?ien
residents of the Burgenland (Soviet Zone of Austria) and fo: several months
published a Hungarian laugnage newspaper advocating land re-.rm.
9,. Officials of the Educational Association have tried to intimidate and discredit
nor -Communist Hungarians by availing themselves of the facilities of Hungarian
Communist newspapers sold in Vienne.. During the past year a number of Hungarian
Communist papers have published articles attacking Dr, Julius MISKOLCZ'f,, President
of the Central Union of the Democratic Hungarian Associations and General Director
of the Collegium Hungaricutn? Dr. Bela DER. until recently director of the Hungarian
Academic Association in Vienna; and Dr., Bela MADAM, until recently director of the
Hungarian Red Cross in Austria. Gyorgy PBATER of the Huo.ga7-lan Legation in Vienna
assisted the Communists in preventing non-Communists from oit.aining passports,
visas, and travel permits for Hungary. I`% [ER was killed In an
