1. Many of the graduates and students of the Peace Preservation Corps Officers' Schools
in North Korea are dissatisfied with the treatment they are receiving.
2, Nhen the Peace Preservation Corps Officers' Schools in North Korea were first estab-
lished, the students were told that, upon graduation from the schools, they would be
assigned to important positions in various atiliteiry and semi-military organisations,
such as the Peace Preservation Office ;Po An SS "ifi, ). However, most of the
graduates of the schools have been performing the duties of ordinary soldiers.
3, The food situation in the Peace Preservation Corps Officers' Schools is bad. Since
1 May the students have roceiveu only two meals, consisting c~,ly.of turn meal, a day..
4. The training at the schools has been vigorous and discipline has been strictly
enforced. No criticism of superiors on any matter is tolerated. -
5. The morale of the students is low and desertions from the schools have increased
so such that the staff menbers of the schoola are seriously concerned.
6,, The military authorities it North Korea are experiencing great difficulty in re-
cruiting men for the Peace Preservation Corps Officers' Sohoola. Some of the
leading Communists in certain localities in Borth Korea have joined the schools ,
voluntarily to set an example for others in the community, In some places in North
Korea young men have even been compelled by force to join the Peace Preservation
