LIST.
3 October 191L7, two Paraguayan officials
were granted an interview with President Peron, who discussed his plans for
aiding Paraguay as well as many other subjects. The Paraguayan officials
were Mario Ferrario, newly-appointed Chief of Police in Asuncion and former
Secretary to the President of Paraguay,, and Auguste Fuster, a secretary of
the Paraguayan Embassy in Buenos Aires, Peron is said to have spoken to
these men frankly., for Fuster is co nonly regarded to be of Peronista sym -
pathies, and the close association of Mario Ferrario with the Argentines is
well-known.
2. Peron said., in speaking of his plans for Paraguayan aid, that he though the
internal politics of Paraguay should be put on a more settled basis for the
well being of that country. Be spoke of his decision to give economic aid to
Bolivia as well, and is said to have stated that the countries of southern
South America should aid each other economically in order to protect their
sovereignties. (Fuster reportedly understood Peron to be referring to the
danger from North American imperialism.) Peron added that Uruguay would
necessarily have to form a part of this economic 'mentendimiento," but that
nothing could be done with the Brazilians. who considered their country the
greatest power in the world. 25X1 X6
eron spoke of the prosperous situation in which Argentina
rinds erse. o ay and of her future economic possibilities. Be stated that
Argentina is now independent. and does' not need the help of anyone, and that
within two years Argentina will be in a position to export machinery and
possibly even automobiles, He cited the fact that a certain United States mission
had offered to pay.for a purchase of grain with machinery,, which Argentina did
not need. He is also reported to have said that it is necessary to be careful
in dealing with such missions for they generally hide political objectives.
Concerning the question of Communis he Argentine President
as saying that.very soo, perhaps after the' return of the Argentine Ambassador
to Washington., he willl begin taking measures against Communists.
