la It is reported that on 6 June, meetings were held at the headquar-
ters of the Confederazione Perseguitati Politici Antifascisti on Via
dells Vergini and at Via Parma 5, both in Rome. 93 delegates repre-
senting various left wing parties in the regions of Lazio, Umbria
Sabina and Rome and province attended. The purpose of these confer-
ences was to transform the Comitato di Difesa Popolare into a Comando
Unico Militare which would have a military characters
2. The report on these conferences, prepared for the directorates of
the various parties represented at the meetings, stated as followss
(a) The delegates are charged with preparing the masses
for action in the expectation of the-possible re-
turn of the anti-proletarian action squads supported
by conniving foreigners, by industrial groups and
by politicians
(b) The purpose of the Comitato di Difesa is to plan
for.the violent elimination of Fascist and reaction-
ary leaders.
(c) This is to be coordinated with eventual Communist
plans for mass street actions.
The Communist Libertarian Federation, the individual Anarchists, and
the Action Party are collaborating in the organisation of the Comitato
di Difesa. Committees have been created in all Italian provinceso

6e The PCI and the Comando Unieo 211ilitare are reported to have issued
a joint order to all loaders of the left wing military organizations
to keep in readiness. The order has also been given to Southern
Italy and the Italian Islands. At a meeting in the headquarters of
the Comando Unieo Liilitaro Emilio Sereni and Giulio Cerreti, both
members of tho national executive of PCI, in reply to a question
arcked by Iron. Baldazzi stated that a return to clandestine activi-
ties and the starting of a guerrilla warfare in Italy were not im-
possible.
