The Shanghai Latvian Society is coy posed of approximate .4 105 Latvians who
do not recognize the incorporation of Latvia into the USSR, Chairman of
this society is iierner Edward Koppe, employee of Andersen, Meyer and
Compare, The vice-chairman is A. P. i3aliot, 'retired official of the
Chinese Maritime Customs,. The secretary is Ringold Rozitis, a radio
operator, At present, this society is inactive.
Currently, loses' Aleksander Zabulonis, former acting Lithuanian consul, is
also unofficially acting as Latvian consul,, He is doing this upon the
reryuest of the London Latvian representative. Zabulonis assists needy
Latvians in Shanghai through his connections with variouf3 foreign relief
organizations? Although China recognized the incorporation of Latvia into
the USSR in 1940, Zabulonis is still permitted to prolong the passports of
Zatvian citizens in Shanghai Zabuloni.s maintains contact with Charles
Zarin:, Latvian representative in London ,;.nd with Dr. Dilrnanis, Latvian
r?eprese.nt:ntiire in t1ashington, D. C., both of whom do not recognize the
}present Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic. Comrment,
