`THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION FOR THE RESEARCH
USE OF TRAINED INTELLIGENCE ANALYSTS
It is proposed to develop the road Vienna.Schwrechat-Bruck a.d. Leitha-Parndorf.
Hegyeshalom as the Vienna - Budapest trunk road, in order to avoid passage
tarough Czechoslovak territory. This measure is considered necessary since, as
a result of the recent frontier adjustments between Hungary and Czechoslovakia,
three villages soutti of Bratislava on the main road Vienna - Hainburg - Kittsee
Oroszvar - Budauest have been transferred to Czechoslovak sovereignty.

2m ridding for the contract was started on 19 May 1948 by the Burgenland Provincial
Government in Eisenstadt. Sixteen firms competed for the contract. Austrian
firms found that their bids were on an average 20 -- 30% higher than those :f firms
under Soviet control (50 -- 55 sc.zillingsper meter against 40 d 45 schillings)a
The successful bi& were those of the following Soviet-controlled firms: `lianova,
.Allgemeine Strassenbaugesellschaft Porr A.G., Helnann, Sager and `+ornle (sic),
and three other unidentified companies.,
3. The construction work has been sub-divided into thxee sectors, each under separate
contract, and is due to start irm)ediatelron the Nickelsdorf - 7urndorf -_

4, The road will be 6 Meters vdde with a one-meter wide unmetalled shoulder on.-each
side.
5. The construction work will require approximately 1,200 carloads of cement tdf 10,,000
kg each, 18,000 cubic meters of gravel, and approximately 50,000 cubic meters of
soil.
6. The cost is estimated at 15,000,000 Austrian schillings0
