Ct SSIFICATION C 25X1A Approved For Re~~A~~~~~~2L2182-00451~Q~0 IN FO AT 41:. RT COUNTRY Germany (Russian Zone) SUBJECT Reiclisbahn Operational It July 1948 PLACE 25XJA ACQUIRED 77 n DAM F OF J-i .FO 25X1A DATE DISTR. 21. September 1945 NO. OF PAGES 2 UPPLEMENT TO EPORT NO. 25X1X 1s, Freight traffic in July is described as follows: "Traffic was seriously disturbed by political events and by the backlog of Russian trains at the Polish border and at the Baltic Sea ports. As a result of limitation of traffic to and from the western zones the number of loaded cars received was 900 per day less than in the previous month. The new practice of avoiding stations in the western sectors of Berlin had a very unfavorable effect. Rerouting of traffic overburdened Berlin, Greifswald, and Cottbus. The ,acklog of trains at the Polish border reached a high of 197 on one day. This is due not to increased loadings but to delayed acceptance of the trains by Poland. In the ?econd half of the month in- creased deliveries of flour from the Russian zone to the Russian sec ,or of Berlin began. Coal deliveries to Switzerland were renewed In mid-July but stopped on 26 July when the western zones refused transit. Pit props and scrap intended for the western zones were shipped to Poland instead. Cancellation of the credit led to a temporary cessation of lumber shipments to Denmark." 2. Ca rl.o a di ng s in.
