In a speech delivered in mid-August at Rosario, Argentina, Miguel Miranda, President of the National Economic Council, stated that the Argentine 'Government would not allow local firms to purchase auto- mobiles and similar items from the United States. 2. Later, on the same day, while a guest in the home of Eduardo Lopez, vice president of the Mineti milling firm, Miranda advised a small group of businessmen assembled for dinner not to be too much impressed by his statements earlier in the day. He assured the other guests that there would be an abundance of dollars in Argentina within two months as a result of an economic agreement already reached with the United States, and suggested that they go ahead with arrangements for purchases in the United States.
