USE OF TRAINED INTELLIGENCE ANALYSTS
1. All Communist units: The 3 Column with artillery support is attacking Ihsien
(12115,41-32)(defended by the Temporary 20 Division of the Nationalist 93
Army). Fall of the city is imminent. The main body of the 9.Column is
attacking the Chinchou (121-07,41-07) perimeter from the west, with artillery
support concentrated on the hinchou airfield. The main force of the 7
Column is on the eastern outskirts of Chinchou, with part of the column
between Hsihaikou (121-01,40-50) and Hsingshan (121-05,40-57), south of
Chinchou. The 14est 8 Column is at Hsiehchiatun (.121-10,41-12), which is
7 kilometers north of Changchun on the railroad. On 28 September the 27
Division of the 9 Column occupied Kochiao (120-59,40-53). The 4 Column and
Jehol Independent 6 Division are attacking Hsingcheng (120-42,40-38), which
is completely surrounded. -On 28 September the Jehol Independent 6 Division
occupied Suichung (120-19,40-20). The 1 Column is at Changwutaimen (122-4O,
42-16); the 2 Column is at Peichen (121-44,41.36) and is moving toward
Chinchou. The 6 Column is between Fouhsin and Hainlitun; the 10 Column is
moving southwest from Faku (123-23,42-31). The total number of Co,:ununist
troops on the offensive at Chinchou and at points south, along the railroad
is over 85,000.
The 3 Column, attacking Ihsien, is the best Communist column in Lanchuria

Comment. The entire strength of the experienced Gomunist combat
troops are now in west 1anchuria. That the 4 Column is attacking railroad
points south of Chinchou indicates the Co;.munists intend to hold the rail-
road south of Chinchou instead of employing thei- former hit-and-run tactics.
