Wolgast 1. Work began during August 1948 on the construction of a small shipyard on the Peens River, near Wolgast (P-92). The buildings of a.cellul a plant, which was constructed during the war, are being put to u.se' On& large shed is being reconditioned by 350 workers, and a slipway is being con- structed to lead from the shed to the river. One million bricks have been delivered from Peenem{nde for use in the bgilding of the yard. Power for the yard will be generated by a newl,-erected adjacent power station housing two 3,500 KW turbines. One Ing. Schoning has been charged with the equip- ping of the plant. It is estimated that the construction work will cost approximately six million RM. 2. It has been officially stated that the Peenewerft will be used for the fitting out of deep-sea fishing vessels of up to 75 tons burden. Accord- ing to building plans, however, the yard will be capable of handling craft displacing up to 250 tons. The Peens installation will be a so-called Volks- werft, like the yard in 1)amgarten, the Tha]mannwerft in Brandenburg, and the Volkswerft,iniNagfibbuyg The latter three yards will manufacture hulls for the Peenewerft, which will in turn fit the completed hulls with Diesel en- gines and launch the vessels. Seventy percent of the craft will be delivered to the Russian authorities. Director of the Peenewerftwill be one Dipl. Ing. Lamprecht of Rostock. Rechlin Shimvard Taucherfirma Bellmann and the Nordische Baugesellschaft Stralsund have been ordered by the SAM, through the Mecklenburg state government, to build a small shipyard in Rechlin, on the Mfritz See. The Rhodewerft. Rostso As of mid-August 1948, the Rhodewerft was launching one fishing cutter,every week. Upon completion, the cutters are taken over by Soviet crews and moved to the Kr8gerwerft at Warnem1nde, where they receive two coats of paint and their identification numbers. They are then sailed, without proper sea trials, for an eastern Baltic port. In the near future the entire Rhodewerft will be moved further upstream to facilitate communications. In August 1948 there was already a wooden shed on the prospective site in which one minesweeper was under construction. This minesweeper, the exact'replica of a German R-boat, should be ready for trials imt@ cinb@'tde$.1948. gent .i nth rc 6. A shipyard was opened in Quentzin,.on the Plauersee_, on 1 August 1948... The yard has four slipways and a brick assembly shop measuring 60 in. x 25 in. Two hundred workers are employed in the yard.
