THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION FOR THE RESEARCH USE OF TRAINED INTELLIGENCE ANALYSTS 50X1-HUM 1. Nle'ven rrersons . three men, three women and five children - left Changchun 3 August at 10 aa.m. on their way to Mukd.en. At noon they passed the last Nationalist sent.ry post, where they were searched and permitted to pass. At the "Seventh 33raoch Office," the first Communist sentry post, about a mile and a half southwest of the city? the party was stopped. At that point the men nroduced two v,istols and two cameras as -payment for taassage through the lines (see below). In rettarn for these items the sentry finally permitted the women and children to nrocoed but the men were told to return to the city to secure more weapons. On 4 August the three men returned to the same Communist sentry ?,ost and without further bribes finally armed their way through into Communist .controlled territory. The Communists had announced they were a7 lowing a large number of refugees to pass each day, and on .+ August the men were given permits which enabled them to go to Fanchiatun (175.04, 43-43). On 6 August at Fanchirti n the three men found the rest of their party and the group was given another pass which permitted thorn' to go through the Communist lines to north of Tishling (123-51, 42..).8). For the next five days they traveled by carriage to Yftangchul ivg (124750. 43-32). Ssuningchieh (l24v?.' 4311) and Ka iyuan (124.-05, 42-360. From Xaiyuan they walked to the last Communist post at Sbantoarao, eight miles north of Tiehlixsf;, and from Shantounao they walked to Pingtingpao, the Nationalist post north of Tiehltug. There they secured a carriage to Tiehling and from .Ttehling they boarded the train for Mukden, 2. On 4 August the Communists surround ins Changchun announced they they would permit through their lines ; OO refuges from Ohan chun per day provided they handed over certain weapons. The refugees were guarded by Communists until they reached Fanchiatu; where they were given Identification cards and allowed to proceed. Most of the persons in charge of the Interrogation which preceeded the distribution of the identification cards were students who had escaped from Changchun previously. 3., On 4 August three Russians, two men and one woman, left Changchun.
