to Marcel Leopold, a Siiss businessman in Tientsin, clams to own a gold mine
between Peiping and Shanhaikuan for which he has invested heavily in modern
equipment. The Communists now occupy the area around the mine.
2. Leopold claims that his gold-mining area is equal in geographic size to the
city of Tientsin. He says that a Communist representative visited him in
Tientsin last year, bearing an invitation for him to visit the mine.
3.. According to Leopold, the Communists are washing 70 tasls of gold per day
from the mine. As of 15 October 1948 this amount was worth US 42,400.
