Prado and Octavio Escobar G., who were
Campo do Marte prison in Managua, were
of the Guardia Nacional.

2. Newspapers in Managua reported the alleged escape on 9 November 1948, and
the official confirmation was made on 11 November by Col. Francisco Gaitan,
Chief of Staff of the Guardia, who stated that the prisoners had sawed through
a steel lock on their cell. 25X1X6
the men had been
held at La Aviation prison, not Campo de Marte, and were killed during the
course of a drinking party given by Col. Carlos Eddy Monterrey, Chief of
FAN, the Nicaraguan Air Force. Officers at the party decided to call the
prisoners for "questionin " and durin the process, one of the officers
shot both prisoners. the killings were spontaneous, and
had not been ordered. 25X1X6
4. Neither prisoner was important in the opposition ranks, and it is not known
why they were imprisoned.
5. Seven officers who witnessed the killings were transferred from La Aviation
to Campo de Marto shortly after the incident.
