1? Setrak Semerjian and 0hanes Vartanian, Communists who went to Lebanon
from Soviet Armenia several months ago to unite Armenians in support
of the ASSR.. have told Armenian Communists in Lebanon not to take any
action that would attract the attention of the authorities. They were
told to keep secret all their preparations for action,, in order to
avoid hindrance by the government. Coanment. Ohanes Vartarlian,
vho, source say., is nicknamed Vgrtanov, may be Identical with Vartanov,
an Armenian priest tho works for the Soviets.)
As a result of these orders, Armenian Communists are reported to have
stopped all activities antagonistic to the Syrian and Lebanese Go-rnments,;
including the holding of secret meetings,
