1. The apartment of Leone Romano, at 2 Sharia Champalion a L azarita,
Alexandria, was entered and searched by the Egyptian political police,
who suspect mist activity and of contacting Zionist
extremists. Comment,, The following information was received
in July 194ts n trie same source as that of the present report: Romano
was born in Egypt of Italian parents, but left that country at an early
age. During the Spanish Civil War, he was a member of an international
brigade. Since then he has become a militant Con>auniat, according to
source. In 1938 he returned to Lgypt; and in 19212 was interned by the
Allied authorities. Romano is said to have worked against the British
in Palestine during World War II. He was reported as of June 1948 to be
engaged in subversive propaganda activitya)

the father of Kurt Meitz. Comxaente Kurt Meitz was among those

asked that Romano interest himself in Mei ta's 'defense before the
Egyptian courts, On the basis of this letter the police have concluded
that, since Romano is a Jew,, Maitz's participation in the bombings
was in the capacity of a Zionist agent. Romano is still under
investigation by the police,,
