General Military Information On 15 December 1-48, men born in 1928 are to be called up for military ;service. 2. Men born in 1926 and 1927 are now serving in the ranks of the Albanian Arr:).y. The men cornpo:;ing the border ruard are paid rind trusted members of the Communist Party of Albania. Their monthly salary amounts to 3s,OCO lek. In the Loskovik-Korce sectors there are three battalions of border guards. `f?hc first battalion is based in Korce, the selond in t.rseke, and the third In Leskovik. >. In the large towns near the border in the Leskovik-Korce sectors is based a special military sarv .ce called Seksion Siln:irimi. (Security Section). This aervice is in close contact with the guard-posts along the Albanian border,, a: d it has special agent, to collect intelligence from Greece. During September 1948 in `oseow a commercial treaty was signed by the Minister of Foreign Cora morce of the Soviet Union Mikoyan and by an Albanian commercial representation consisting of six members led by Tuk Jakova, Minister of Industry and member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Albania. This treaty is for the year 1948; on the basis of it the Soviet Union will send to Albania a large quantity of grain, automobiles, and machinery. A special article of this treaty provides for its renewal .for the follotiarinr_; year. 12. On the basis of the commercial treaty between the Government of the Soviet Union and Enver Hoxha, which was signed during Fioxha's trip to r'oscow in duly 1947, the Soviet Union will sell three factories to Albania: a. A sugar refinery with an annual (sic) capacity of 1,000 tons. This factory will be erected near Lake Maliki (sic) near Korce. It will employ about 500 unskilled and skilled workmen. Construction work will begin in March 1949 and is to be completed in 1951. 'Production is to start in the fall of 1951. Near the refinery will be constructed a housing project for the corkers and their families. b. A woolen mill with an annual capacity of 20,000,000 meters of cloth. This will be constructed in Tirana. Construction is to commence about the end of 1950, and production is to begin in 1951. c. A leather factory, also to be erected in Tirana. Construction will begin about the end of 1950, and production is to commence about the end of 1951.
