1. Arturo A1essandri, who made a speech on 23 November 1948 before the Chilean
senate praising Peron and absolving Argentina from complicity in the recent
plot against the Gonzalez Videla Govermnent, originally planned to attack
Argentina in this speech.
2. !then the tenor of Aleseandrire proposed remarks became Imo= to Peron through
Argentine intelligence channels, Peron announced his intention of decorating
Alessandri and bestowing the Order of the Liberator modal upon him. A2essandri,
who is now President of the Chilean Senate, frantically revised his speech at
the last minute, and he has accepted the Argentine decoration.
