OF ENCLS. (LISTED BELOW) SUPPLEMENT. REPORT NO. 6 X1A2 The Uruguayan Socialist Party's plan to form a liaison committee with other ,emocratic ooliti.cal parties in the country in an attempt to stamp out Com- 6 n usm, has progressed slowly. Only one party, the Partido Nacional .i,ndependiente, has accepted in writing the complete plan of the Socialists, nd has named delegates? Dr. r'elipa Gail and Luis Pedro Bonavita, to the ::+Jf3I11rTRe. '`rom the Batilista Party no written reply has been received through its _eaa(er, Cesar Battle Pacheco. Socialist leader Dr. Emilio Frugoni, how-- yver. has received Batlle's verbal accord? she Ateneo de riontevideo expressed great interest in the Socialistsr effort -rnd invited Dr. Frugoni to attend a meeting of the clubts board of directors and enlarge upon his ideas. At the meeting Dr. Frugoni was told by the directors that they objected to the Union Civica being invited to send dele- ,ates to the corm-it-tee. The directors feel that the Union Civica is spon- :cored by the Catholic Church and is therefore not completely democratic, This is the only thing delaying the AtoneoQs answer to the Socialists, and the question is still under discussion at this time. risre SSrmBUTION D (ONFI NTIAL Approved For Release 1999/09/08 CIA-RDP82-00457R002100530010-3
