1. A declaration of the policy of the Movimiento Popular Liberal (MPL) was read
at a meeting held on 20 November 1948 in honor of the leaders of the Liberal
Party of Colombia. The following points were covered:
a. The MPL is fighting exclusively for the ideals contained in the Liberal
Party platform and it emphatically protests any Communist infiltration of
the Liberal Party.
b. The MPL reiterates its support of the Party Directorates and calls attention
to the actions of the Communists who are attempting to gain places on
election lists which should belong only to genuine Liberals.
e. The MPL eclares that it will only accept as presidential candidate a person
irk D isogon in accordance with the rules laid down by Jorge Eliecer
Gaitan at the January 1948 Liberal Party Convention.
2. Militant members of the Liberal Party, who were present at the meeting,
indicated that they had strenuous objections to any political or electoral
agreement with the Communist Party of Colombia (PCC).
Rafael Baquero H. attended the meeting and was to report on the proceedings
to the Central Executive Committee of the PCG.
