1. The recent riots in Dama cus were instigated by Rushdi Kehk3..a's Popular Party
(formerly the Constitutidnalist Party), with the main objective of ousting
Prima minister Janil Maidam and cleaning up the Syrian Government. The
Popular Party demanded four ministries in any new government to be formed
(the Ministries of Interior, Finance, Foreign Affairs, and Defense), but
as of 4 December the Party had not demanded the Premiership,
2. The Popular Party was assisted in the instigation of the riots by the
Renaissance Party and students. Cowmunists who attempted to join th+`
demonstrators wore barred by the demonstrators themselves. There was some
feeling displayed by the rioters against foreigners, but little of this
was directed against the British.
