1. During; the course of a press interview on 16 11oversber for El Diario de Ito r. a
pro-unionist newspaper, President Castaneda of El Salvador made some off-the-
record remarks. Ile stated that he had no fear of leaving the country should
the proposed meeting of Central :I.neric= presidents materialize, since he con-
trolled the Army completely.
2. Castaneda added that he controlled all the'other candidates (whom. he would
invite to make the trip with him), and that none of then could rinks a note with-
out his authorization.
