DATE flF 71' 25X1X6 SUPPLEMENT TO REPORT NO. 15 December 1948 1 In addition to its usual tactics of obstructing the distribution of C .~.:unist propaganda and of arresting and questioning low-level Corrtunists, the argentine gavernr.~ent has recently been engaged in the following anti-Co unit activities 1. The club-SecretarLat of Press and Propaganda has been instructed to prepare radio and press material denouncing rumors which have been circulating in outside countries that Argentina and the soviet Union have a secret understanding. 2. The P:inistry of Labor has been instructed to intensify its investigation of Communist infiltration of labor unions, particularly among railroad workers. Private detective agencies are now being employed to do some of this Work. 3. Federal Police have stationed men in the Irmigration Department in an effort to detomine whether employees of that agency are engaged in furnishing illegal documentation to undesirable immigrants, i.e. Cormtunists. This measure has been adopted as a result of recent discoveries of illegal immigration rings including one group which provided false documentation to unregistered immigrants. 4. The Coordination Federal section of the Federal Police Is currently examining correspondence and cables between Budapest and the Communist front organizations Union de ??iujeres do la Argentina and Agrupacion Cultural Fetenina. Representatives of both these organizations are scheduled to attend the Second International Peace Conference in Budapest.. Hungary in December 1918. 5. Federal Police have initiated a surveillance of Atahualpa Yupanqui, well-mown Communist poet, in the belief that he is in contact with `banish sad Italian Communists in 1rgentina.
