In addition to its usual tactics of obstructing the distribution of C .~.:unist
propaganda and of arresting and questioning low-level Corrtunists, the argentine
gavernr.~ent has recently been engaged in the following anti-Co unit activities
1. The club-SecretarLat of Press and Propaganda has been instructed to prepare radio
and press material denouncing rumors which have been circulating in outside
countries that Argentina and the soviet Union have a secret understanding.
2. The P:inistry of Labor has been instructed to intensify its investigation of
Communist infiltration of labor unions, particularly among railroad workers.
Private detective agencies are now being employed to do some of this Work.
3. Federal Police have stationed men in the Irmigration Department in an effort to
detomine whether employees of that agency are engaged in furnishing illegal
documentation to undesirable immigrants, i.e. Cormtunists. This measure has been
adopted as a result of recent discoveries of illegal immigration rings including
one group which provided false documentation to unregistered immigrants.
4. The Coordination Federal section of the Federal Police Is currently examining
correspondence and cables between Budapest and the Communist front organizations
Union de ??iujeres do la Argentina and Agrupacion Cultural Fetenina. Representatives
of both these organizations are scheduled to attend the Second International
Peace Conference in Budapest.. Hungary in December 1918.
5. Federal Police have initiated a surveillance of Atahualpa Yupanqui, well-mown
Communist poet, in the belief that he is in contact with `banish sad Italian
Communists in 1rgentina.
