SUPPLEMENT TO
1:. A TACA plane was scheduled To depart from San Jose, Costa Rica, on 18 December,
carrying Fiosendo Arguello, Jr,, Adolfo Baez Bone, Octavio Pesos Montiel, Mario
Souza, and others, to F-1 Salvador and Guatemala. Their objective was to
secure from the new Salvadoran Military Junta a declaration of its position
with regard to the Caribbean revolutionary movementio A completely favorable
answer was anticipated, based on previous knowledge of that government?s views.
2. The mission's objective in Guatemala was not revealed, but General Carlos
Pesos, Mariano Morales, and other revolutionary leaders are there awaiting
transportation to Costa Rican
3a The Caribbean Legion members, except for a minority who were passing as
mobilized Costa Ricans, were remaining quiet in the political background
for the duration of the investigation of the. international peace commissioners.
Legion members were wearing civilian clothes.
4,, A doubtful alliance has been reactivated between Rosendo Arguello Jr., and
the Caribbean Legion, Tentative plans include a call to present to Honduran
President-elect Juan Galvez a force of Costa Rican, Salvadoran, and Guatemalan
revolutionists united against Somoza, and to threaten Galvez with internal
revolt if he does not join. This threat of armed revolt in Honduras is based
on a reported promise that arms would be released by Jose Figueroa., President
of Costa Rica, to Rosendo Arguello Jr., for use in the Nicaraguan revolutionary
movement after termination of the fighting in Costa Rica.
