The following newspapermen in Cochabamba are active in the dissemination of
pro-Communist and pro Soviet propaganda;
la Mario Rolon Anaya, on the staff of the Cochabamba daily, E. Pais, distorts
the releases received fran the news services, chiefly by gv ng the head-
lines a pro-Communist slant. Iblon is a sub-official of the municipality
of Cochabamba and a student in the University there.
2. Both the-managing editor of El Pais, Jose H. Gordillo, and its owner and
editor, Pvx firio Dias Machiacao, 1iave strong Communist tendencies, and the
paper is known for its pro-Soviet and anti-United States reporting,
Gordillo is on the directorate of the Partido Izquierda Revolucionario
(FIR) in Cochabamba. Diaz has pronounced leftist sympathies., having been
a member of the PIR, from which,, however, he was reportedly expelled in
August 1948. He was a member of the Spanish Republican Camara Democratica
Espanola in-Bolivia, and a signer of a petition to the Chilean Government
asking for the release of the Comtmuzist Senator Pablo Neruda.
3. Amado Canelas`, Secretary of the Youth Group of the PIR in Cochabamba, uses
funds received. through the help of a pilot of Lloyd Aereo Bolivian to dis-
seminate Communist propaganda in the University of San Simon in Cochabamba.
Canelas is a reporter for the netn;paper Los Tiemposc where he uses the nom
de plume, Valluno,
