c SUPPLEMENT TO
1. On 29 November 1948, Captain NIKOLAEVSKI of the Soviet City Headquarters in
St. Poelten, Lower Austria, summoned an official of the municipal govern-
ment and requested that the following information about the City of St. Poelten
be submitted to the Soviet City Headquarters by 10 December 1948. The in-
formation requested is to be gathered by the St. Poelten Bundespolizeikommissariat.
a. A list of all business enterprises employing more than six persons,
showing in each case the kind of concern, where raw materials are
procured, and to whom products are sold. If possible, pictures of the
business establishments are to be submitted.
b. Plan of the City of St. Poelten, 30 x 40 cm.
c. Photographs of bridges, railroad stations, and large buildings in
St. Poelten.
d. Population figures, showing number of men and women, and number of
children up to 18 years of age.
e. Number and kind of schools, including number of students in each school,
it, List of athletic associations, with number of members in each association,,

g. Inventory of livestock, showing number of horses, cattle, sheep, and wine,

2. Similar instructions were also received from Soviet authorities by the
Bezirkshauptmann of St. Poelten and the Bezirkshauptmann of Melk.
Source points out that in the past Soviet authorities have never demanded
such comprehensive statistics at one time; t e is-the first time they have
requested photographs of factories and hyd edbc plants, and also their
first request for statistics on livestock. ource interprets this series of
questions as an indication that the Soviets are planning to tighten their
control in Lower Austria.
