SUPPLEMENT TO
25X1 C REPORT NO.
1. A new training camp for soldiers has been installed at Pilisesaba, about 25X1X6
fifteen kilometers northeast of Budapest. At the time of the regular
calling up of new classes, early in October 1948, the number of new
recruits was officially estimated to be 25 to 30 percent more than the
usual yearly total. This number actually signifies 130 percent more,
inasmuch as the age of these extra recruits was not higher than 17 to
13 years, and-they are consequently below the legal age limit for
obligatory military service.
2. These newly called-up recruits are carefully chosen and selected by the
Kossuth Academy, organized by the Communists for the training of officers
who.must be proven members of the Communist Party. A preliminary petition,
recommendation from the.Party, and a curriculum vitae are required for
admission to the caran.
3. All information at hand indicates that it is in this camp that the Com-
munists will train their elite troops, who will have the same duty in
military life as the denouncers of the Political Police have in civilian
lif(--.
' In addition to the usual military instruction, great importance is attached
to the knowledge of world-wide ideologies, naturally based on Stalinism
and Leninism. The instructors are solely composed of Communists.
According to the registrations, the new recruits come from mining and
industrial centers; among professions listed there are no peasants or
intellectuals.
