President Gala Plaza Lasso has granted an immediate pay increase to enlisted
men and noncommdssioned Army personnel in an effort to forestall a threatened
revolt in Ecuador. The President has also promised to consider other demands
made by the troops. This action has eased the situation, at least momentarily.
