lh on 10 January 1949, a Nicaraguan revolutionist who had participated in
the mo vement by Honduran exiles against the Cerias regime in Honduras
in October 1948, reported to Juan Bosch his views on why the movement failed.
2, According to the Nicaraguan, Honduras General Ruf'ino Solis was the only
leader who could have successfully overthrown the Criss regime,, Instead of
Solis, General Moises Domes led the revolt and bungled the job completely.
The Nicaraguan specifically pointed out Gomes' miskandling of aid secretly
offered by the-Ouatema3an government. Gomez and several of his officers,
Gen. Carraeco, Gen. Aguilus and a lawyer named kiralda, were so indiscreet
in their public discussions of the Guatemalan offer that it was withdrawn
before any effective aid was transmitted,
3, Source also blamed the selfish actions of the Liberal leader of Honduras?
Angel Zuniat Haste, in withholding his support from the anti-Caries movement
for fear of losing the Presidential elections himself.
4. According to source, the other factor which contributed to the downfall of
the Honduran revolt was the interference of the ,United Fruit Company, which
favored the maintenance of the Curiae regime. Source attacked United Fruit
as having organized a conspiracy to thwart the revolutionists at every
turn, but admitted that he had been unable to uncover any proof of this
alleged interference.
