guards numbering slightly over a battalion. Headquarters for administration
and supply of the guards is located at Tolmin.
The guards are stationed at fixed posts approximately 100 meters from the
border at intervals of about 500 meters. The tour of duty is four hours
at which time the guard is replaced by his relief, who stands in the
same spat.
3. The location of the posts varies from night to night, the exact spot being
chosen by the officer of the guard, who arbitrarily selects the exact
position for posting each guard.
4. It is believed that a "defense in depth" system of patrols exists beyond
these fixed posts.
