b. The Nil.itary Bureau in formally subordinate to the Transport and Supply
Department of the General Staff but in actual fact is subordinate to the
Soviet authorities!, who, through the Polish General 'ltaff, have complete
control in rreparing the Polish State Railways for mobilization in case
of necessity.
c. Recently there has been a noticeable increase -if activity in the Military
Bureau with renard to matters concerning traffic capacity, state and
quantity of rolling stock, condition of tracks, etc.
c. Each Area Rails; y Administration (Dyrekeja Kolejoua, DGKP) has a Military
Department (TTydzial ?,JoSsko r). This has sections corresponding to the
department in the Military Bureau. (See para. 1 above). Military Depart
nents of DOKP are directly subordinate to the Military Bureau.
as At each Military Department of DOXP there is one representative of the
Soviet authorities, either a Soviet officer serving in the Polish Army
or a civilian official dealing with Sovieth transit traffic.

SOIL now numbers arproximately 30,000. Railway Militia and UB (Public Security)
units are now also guarding railway lines and objectives. These forces number
approximately 50,000 and, in the opinion of the Polish General Staff, are re-
quired because of uncertainty of the political loyalty of railway personnel,
although not of them are now PPR members. Sabotage carried out by'railway
and/or technical tersonnel could stop all railway transports through Poland
to and from the USSR.
