la Juan N-larinello, Cuban Communist leader and one of the organizers of the Latin
American Congress for Peace and Democracy to be held in Mexico ( ,25X1 A2g
recently wrote Vittorio Codovilla and Rodolfo Ghioldi, co-leaders of the
Communist Party of Argentina (CPA)s to request that the CPA :sponsor an intensive
propaganda campaign in favor of the forthcoming congress. A:arinello cautioned
then to avoid having it appear that the campaign stemmed directly from the Party.
He suggested that a special comission of Argentine intellectuals, writers, artists,
and students be organized to further the project, and advised that various political
parties and groups be represented on the commission in order to disguise CPA
sponsorship,
2., The Federation Universitaria Argentina (FIJA), a Coi monist-influenced student
group which is relatively inactive during the suer months, is the only male-
dominated Conununist organization which has so far initiated an active campaign
in support of the congress A Communist women have been continuing their pro-congress
propaganda and have been collecting funds to finance the Argentine delegates (not
