5. U. Veenbaas has been appointed TBA for southern Asahan, which now forms part
of the State of East Sumatra. The center of the government is Rantauparapat.
6. Riouw and Dependencies is governed by Dr. J.J.C.H. van 'aardenburg from
Tandjungpinang. He is attempting to stop smuggling through his territory.
He has a small flotilla, one battalion of infantry (detached in three companies),
and a strong police force.
7. J. Ch. Winterwerp, formerly an assistant resident, has been appointed TBA for
the Residency of Bankulen and his office is in the town of Benkulen.
8. J.J. van der Velde has been appointed TBA for Djambi with offices in. the town
of Diambi.

1. F.P. Heckman, formerly Assistant Resident Commissioner,, has been appointed
Territoriaal Beetuur Ambtenaar (TBA), Territorial Administrator, of Tapanuli,
which includes the island of Nias. His office is in Sibolga, Middle fumatra.
2. Heckman is organizing a board of chieftains for Tapanuli. Local Batak
chieftains are being induced to participate.
3. Only strongly guarded convoys are able to ply-between Sibolga and Padang-
sidemouan because of snipers. The first Koninklijke Paketvaart Maatschappil
(U.PM) boat for Sibolga is scheduled to leave Tandjongpriok on 25 January.

9. Dr. L.B. van Straten has been appointed TBA for Rinangkabau,which includes the
Mentawsi islands.
10. S.H. Pruys is the TBA for Lampong District,. Southern Matra. His office is
in Telokbetong. His duty is to requisition rubber and popper stocks accumulat-
ing in Telokbeton* and Tandunakarang.

11. N. Yakkee, appointed TBA for Bantam (Java), has his office in Serang. Neither
Makkee or Nusrat Djajadiningrat, Assistant Resident Ccemissianer of Tangerang,
has boen successful in inducing Republican civil officials to cooperate with.

22. Jusupadi, the Republicts Acting Governor of West Java, who fled from Serang
'frith his subordinates Kiayi hjaatun, Dr. Eri Sudewo and others, has refused,
along with his subordinates,to work with the Dutch.
13. Arga, commandant of the Angkatan Laut Republik Indonesia (,ART) at Perak,
was killed by Dutch troops in early January.
