to According- to sources Arshak Sarkisian, staff member of the Soviet Legation
in Beirut' has discussed with Ivan Hestia (Vanka Nemkov)s a member of the
Administrative Committee of the Soviet- Patriotic Group in Beirut and
manager of the "Cave. Russo restaurants plans for increasing the activities
of the Group. Sarkissian reportedly requested that the Group increase its
cultural propaganda in Beirut Arab circles and also that it spread rotors that
the United States is seeking war with the Soviet Union. According to source$
Ivan U1earr u was asked by Sarkissian to use his contacts in order to obtain
employment in foreign companies such as Tapline (Trans-Arabian Pipeline
Company) and IPO (Iraq Petroleum Company) for members of the Patriotic ^zoupv
The Group a s Red Army Day meeting on 26 February 191i9 was attended by
forty-one n bore and'sev oral guests, mostly Armenians and Lebanese of no
particular importance, according to source. Sarkissians Feodor Piasarenkog
and Ralif Iffauri., all members of the Soviet Legations also attended the
meeting,
3o Joseph Gibors a Russian by origins is reported by source to match activities
of sabers of the Soviet Patriotic Group for Viittor K1a.ov, First
Secretary of the Soviet Legation in Beirut. Source describes Gabor as
"neither intelligent, capable, nor honest?n He is a Comist by convictions
although not a Party nenbers source states. At present Gibor is awaiting
repatriation to the USSRd
