1. Arturo Olivrarria Brav, Prosident of Accion Chilwa Anti.-Co .eta (ACUiA),
stated to sonroe that the auction held by the organization on 12 lbrah 1949
had been a lanantable but necessary step for the raising of funds.* Olivnrria
Bravo said that ACHA, though now inactive, would continue to maintain contact
with at least the more militant members with a view toward reactivating this
organization should the need arise. ACHA is not necessary at present as an
arc, to combat Cacrtunjsm since the Chilean goverment itself is en?;aged in such
a campaign, according to Olivarria Bravo, ACHA leaders are not convinced,
however, that the present policy of the government will continue, and they have
noted that many of the local politicians and political groups bad shown them..
selves willing and der to collaborate with the Cotnmmicts in the recent
elections,
2. The president of ACIIA boated that none of the modern armament possessed by
the organization had been or would be sold. He stated that this agent is
now being Inept in safe places after having been divided among the ranking ACHA
officers.
3. It has been impossible to locate the large quantity of arms stolen frcm ACIIA
by Octavio O'Kinston Gonzales, formerly one of the leaders of this orgraniaa-
tion, and one of those arrested for participation in the recent abortive
military oo_ispiracy.a* Though interrogated on this matter for aver a month
by members of Chilean Investigations, O'Kingston Gonzalez refused to reveal
what he had done with these arms. Olivarria Bravo stated to source that he

Since ACIIA at one time was a very powerful organization, Santiago newspapers
gave considerable space to an account of the sale. Various interpretations
were given for ACIIA's action. Some considered that this marked the and of
ACHA as an organization, whereas others believed that ACIIA had simply gone into
