la Ernst Siemens is no long interested in concluding a long range agreement
with the Austrian Government and Sienna-Schuckert Austria. He believes
that the.situation in Austria is unstable because of the lack of a state
treaty and the continued presence of Soviet troops on Austrian soil, Siemens
doubts that a settlement at this time conoernin,; the Siemens assets t~rould
be binding. He estimates that the reconstruction of the Siemens plants in
Germany 411 require his i,hole effort for marry years and believes that any
final settlement will have to be made between a futurz German Government
and the Austrian Government as part of the entire German assets question.
However, Siemens is willing to continue to adhere to an informal agreement
to the effect that Siemens Germany will leave the Balkan markets to Siemens
Austria9 permitting the latter to act as sole representative of Siemens and
to use the Siemens name. This informal agreement also permits the continu-
ation of the exchange of certain products between the ttro countries.
