There is no formal conscription for the North Korean Peopleq s Army. but pressure from the North Korea Labor Party and its affiliated organizations is such that the result to the same as if there were conscription. Quotas calling for recruits from 18 to 28 years of age are allocated to each gun (county); the Central Committee of the Labor Party issues instructions to subordinate gun and do (province) committees to see that the recruits are provided. The Peoples Army Headquarters also brings pressure to bear 25X1X6 by dispatching recruiting officers who "force" enlistments, 2. In the mountain valley immediately behind the Aochi Coal Mine, Hamgyong- pukto, 2,000 (7) USSR soldiers are billeted. Their barracks are newly built, but poorly and hastily constructed. ;c.
