1. Thirty Anarcho-Communists were wrested just prior to and during the time
of the Congress of the Bulgarian Communist Party (18 December 1948).
There has been no information on where the arrests took place, or for the
motives for the new campaign against the Anarcho-Communists. Some of the
arrested have been sent to the Pernik coal mines where many other
Anarcho-Communists have been working out their sentence of hard labor.
2. There are two versions as to the reasons for the arrestsR The first con-
siders the arrests as a precautionary measure; taken by the Sofia .
authorities just before the opening of the Congress, and the second is
that the "terrorists under the direction of the Anarcho-Comraunista1? are
being punished for the attempt made in the provinces on the life of a
prominent (but unnamed) Communist leader,
