Yugoslavia Estrangement of SDU and CD NO. 25X1A2g DATE DISTR. 2.5 NIIR 1..949 NO. OF PAGES 1 NO. OF ENCLS. (LISTED BELOW) SUPPLEMENT TO REPORT NO. the Slovenska Yrecaneka Socialna Zveza (Slovene Christian Socialist Union) sent a letter to the Slovene Democratic Union, signed by Father Peter Sorli, a Slovene priest- 2. The letter stated that% an The SCSU is an autonomous organization and that the SDU has not re- presented its interests(i.e, SCSU)j b0 it is, therefore, necessary now to create a committee composed of members of the SDU and SCSU, with equal representation. This com- mittee., alone, would be competent to decide on political questions and to issue directives; c. The SDU would select candidates for the Free Territory of Trieste adMd.nistrative elections only from among its own members, providing they were honest, correct and untainted by anti-Clericalism. The SCSU, however, would not propose any candidates from among its membersl The SDU is responsible for having spread rumors that the SCSU had sold out to the Italians and had actually received funds from them. The Political Committee of the SD1J regards this letter as a provocation. SDU officials have long held the opinion that a complete break with the SCSU will be necessary prior to the administrative elections. Such a break, it is assumed, will continue after the administrative elections. Prominent patrons of the SCSU in Trieste include Father Harnett, National Catholic Welfare Representative, the Office of the British Political Adviser and Bishop Santin.. All of the aforementioned, however, are opposed to a rupture of relations between the SCSU and the SDU. The SCSU, meanwhile, continues to develop its political and cultural activities, independent of the SW, in its headquarters at Via Risorta Nr. lam .fh4S OV-MR _._J0 N OR A !O REPORT ?4SRB FBI tt3 re9iede eot i cc? dance with the ~. i9' 2 from the co%rl 16 pc letter er of Central In plrector oo{ the oj)ited gta Arch' ppyadFR9 ?
