Bajav The battalions are each X00 men strong with three companies
are equipped with boats, pontoons, and the parts of the so-called "Asso"
bridge. They have sufficient pontoons to bridge the Darube.
P ieuvers are carried out with the Asso bridge: Each part of the bridge
is three meters long and 50 centimeters wide, and they are coupled to-
gether with iron hooks. On either side of the completed bridge there are
iron struts with rope barriers. The first part of the bridge is taken
out by motorboat, and the other parts are attached to it. At set
distances, boats are placed to hold the Asso bridge together against the
current. It can only be used by infantry.
