1. 1ontinued investigation of Chilean government claims that it had uncovered
a revolutionary plot on 30 March 194 9* has failed to uncover any confirma-
tion of the existence of an organized group plotting against the regime.
Sources with contacts in the Ayudantia or Department 17 division of
.vcstigacionea state that none of the data gathered up to now indicates
the existence of an organized conspiratorial groups
2. The Confidential or Political Investigation Division has also investigated
the case and has obtained no evidence whatever of the existence of a plot.
3. All sources with police contacts confirm previous allegations that the
official announcement of the plot was a political maneuver by the govez i--
sent to discredit the opposition and to strengthen its own position.**
