Effective 1 May 1949, the 3rd Armored Division with headquarters in Luckenwal.de (Z70) . is ordered to be raised to the status of a Third :ocaanized Arrv. 25X1A2g 2. The following component unite of the 3rd Armored Division'Will be upgraded to guards divisions, their battalions to regiY,onts, etc,: 1.d4th Guards Uochanized Regiment at Juetorbog (E69) 9th I:echanizod Regiment at Cottbus (A57) 6th Guards Ar rod Regiment at 11ittenborg (E37) 7th Guards Armored Regiment at Zahna (E48) 4. All of these units are to retain their original numerical desi.ations3. As of I. i-1ay 1949, the Third ;?,och:anized Army is to be in control of the following units: Four divisions, Talus' the 199th Artillery 3rigade and the 50th liotorcycie Btrtta1ion, both of which are sEationed at Luckenwalde, a rocket launcher regiment at Trebbin (Z'11), and the 983rd Field Hospital. In mid-I ovember 1946, the Third Mechanized Arir y and the Fourth Eoebani zed Array c: re downgraded to divisions, their divisions to regi aento, etc. 9 and all of then were designated t ndrovoi.n At that time they were stripped of their effectives but inot of their equincent. For instance, the 14th Guards I echanized Regiment Xadrrvoi, with a T/0 strength of 150 enlisted men and 192 officers (icc,uae left with 230 enlisted man and 92 officers.
