Among the restricted areas in the USSR which might be serving as sites for experimental stations and factories of the Soviet nuclear energy program is an area located near Borovsk (59043eN, 58040/E), a town near the railway line between Nisei (590041N, 57?3814) and Molotov in the Boravsk itself is connected with the main line by a stretch of single track. The restricted installations in question lie in thick forests near the town. Ostensibly, the restricted area is used for experimentation with various sorts of explosives. In the nearby town of Sakamsk* there is a factory which produces special explosives. 2. The circle formed by the towns of Buguruslan (530401N, 520271E)? Chkalav, Mednogorsk, Magnitogorek? Asha, and Ufa encloses a restricted area bearing the name of Sterlitamak. The area is 450 kilometers long and 380 kilometers wide. It is not known whether or not the Sterlitamak region is served by the Southern Vial-ma-SF-station which has been erected 100 kilometers south of Orsk. It is not certain that the area between Biisk (520031N, 850121E) and Ablaketka (sic) in the northwestern foothills of the Altai Mountains is actually a restricted area, since foreigners entitled to repatri- ation were employed in the construction of the nearby (sic) Ust- Kamenogorsk (500N0 820351E) power plant. 4. The approaches to Lake Baikal are strict/7 guarded and extraordinary precautions are being taken to prevent unauthorized persons from ob- serving activities there. Forced labor and PW trains passing between the Yurga I (55057tN, 84047?E) railway otation and Irkutsk must halt daring daylight at certain specified sidings and may pass through the restricted areas only under cover of darkness. 5. Activities related to the Soviet atomic energy program are rumored to be going on in the following places: zetty_ak: This Ural town is reported to contain an installation for the processing of uranium ore. . Lies on the Siberian-Mongolian border and is said to have been developed into a new center of the chemical industry; e plants are equip with German machines.** CLASSIFICATIO STATE f?R pop. MAW.
